Fallen Angels Dance Theatre (FADT) has been delivering a holistic online programme for 50 adults in recovery from addiction from their Recovery community groups in Cheshire, Merseyside and Leigh, Greater Manchester since Lockdown. The youngest is 23 and the oldest is 70. This has included a weekly timetable of creative dance theatre workshops on Zoom, and activities, and moderation of the interactive Facebook group to ensure that the platforms stay safe for everyone.
We have supported journeys through the challenges, encouraged and maintained engagement and interest in the activity. We have facilitated participant-led micro creative projects that harnessed our holistic approach to challenge their mind and body.
We have developed two dance films: Together While ApArt and Paradigm (further down) with the highlights of the dance and creativity that has been explored and generated during this time.
At Fallen Angels we are still “Together While Apart”. Here
is an outline of the activities: Together While Apart programme:
Zoom Check in:
An opportunity to connect with others, and share our recovery and dance journeys.
Some Tuesdays will be allocated to our Watch Dance sessions – dates to be confirmed.
Zoom Dance workshops:

We are thinking positively and visioning brighter days that the Spring will undoubtedly bring… thinking, moving, creating and expressing our current experience. This project will give an opportunity to think outside the box, and develop greater awareness and perspective. At first you can drop in and try out a session, and then we will become more focussed as we work towards an exciting performance in March date tbc.
Wednesdays wellbeing workshops
With Claire – meditation, movement and improvisation: just move and feel each other’s energies.
Introducing a new FADT team member – “Welcome Danielle!”
We are delighted to introduce you to Danielle who will be a great asset to our Fallen Angels team. Danielle will be supporting you and the Angels in your engagement whilst we are “Together While Apart”!
You may remember last year we advertised for an Engagement Support worker out into the world, we had a great response, but ultimately Danielle shone through with 25 years social care and 10 years mental health support
experience.. We are sure she will be a great asset to the team, and hope that you will make her feel very welcome!! You may also recognise Danielle from her previous experience with Fallen Angels too! 🙂
Danielle will begin on Monday, where she will be getting to
know you all, and finding ways to have chats to find out
how she can support everyone in engaging and keeping

Here are two films we made during lockdown one and two capturing our creative work on Zoom.
This short film is their stories in dance. We are very grateful to Composer Tom Ashbrook for allowing us to use his music.
Together While ApArt
During lockdown two in Autumn 2020 Fallen Angels Dance Theatre Community Recovery groups used chess as a stimulus to create movement, the use of line and direction from the game, reflecting the time they are living in right now became a paradigm for the dancers’ inner journey of recovery and for the movement of their bodies.
More about the Together While Apart Covid 19 project
Our Zoom group sessions offered a range of positive outcomes for those taking part including:
We set up a buddy system within their Together While Apart project during lockdown “It gave me something else to focus on whilst lockdown was in place. From my experience, it helped myself and my buddy feel more connected and not alone.” (participant).
Supporting Angels went on a secret mission to send out hand made cards with personal messages to those who just needed a lift, and a bit of connection.
In our groups Artistic Director Paul Bayes Kitcher has been on hand with inspiration to guide us through the challenges. We explored synergies with how stars are born in the most hostile environments, parallels were drawn to our collective journeys into recovery.
Since lockdown Fallen Angels has met twice weekly through our “Check in meetings” we listen to stories, share experiences and now “we are all a bit closer.” participant
Guest Dancer: Hannah Rudd
Beautiful Dancer Hannah Rudd from Rambert Dance Company, gifted us her time and lifted all our spirits during a challenging time. Hannah says:
“During lockdown I had the joy of working again with #fallenangelsdancetheatre, the work of this company and its participants is not only inspiring, but necessary.
To share with, move with, and be witness to the depth of human capacity that these artists express – is a gift.”
‘Together while ApArt’ is a short capture of the weeks of commitment, to not only dance but also recovery that these artists fulfilled.
It is a privilege as always to be invited into this space.”
Together While Apart continued during the autumn to offer a weekly Zoom session for those who needed it, giving the opportunity for dance and connection to those who are physically isolated.
We are so grateful to the generous support during these challenging times. A very big thank you to: Cheshire Community Foundation, Cheshire West and Chester, The Worshipful Company of Grocers, Evan Cornish Foundation, National Lottery, Pilkington Trust, Steele Charitable Trust, Steve Morgan Foundation, and The Westminster Foundation.
